When human beings are granted excessive comfort and time, they either seek adventure or retreat inward, thinking themselves into philosophy. In the modern age, we have gifted ourselves one of our greatest inventions: contemporary technology, which offers an almost limitless freedom of digital movement. Unfortunately, this freedom has fostered dependency, drawing us into spaces where real human contact, which demands effort and presence, is no longer necessary. When one can communicate effortlessly while lying in bed, why would they choose to step beyond their comfort zone?
Over time, this has cultivated a more self-centred society, one increasingly indifferent to how others think or feel, while judgment quietly resurfaces. We judge, we resent, we speak freely, yet we fail to care, often without realising it. There is something deeply unsettling in observing how people share fragments of their lives online, obsessively monitoring reactions and validation, while rarely engaging with others in any meaningful or mindful way.
Human interaction outside the digital realm has steadily declined, a development that concerns me deeply. And yet, one cannot help but wonder whether, in some ways, this detachment is perceived as safer.
